Style Spotlight: Mid Century Modern Appeal

Mid-century design has been making a come back over the last few years. The reason why is easy to see - mid-century design is characterized by clean, functional designs with an emphasis on simplicity and an integration with nature. Most people are choosing designs which mirror the way they want to live - and simple and natural surroundings create a relaxing and serene atmosphere.  Lets take a look at a few of the hallmarks of mid-century design.

The first thing which most mid-century design utilizes is retaining and showcasing natural wood grain. Using warm stains or natural danish oil, mid-century cabinetry and woodworking take care to feature the beauty and character of natural wood.

Balancing the warmth of the natural wood tones, mid-century design takes care to use cool neutral tones of black, white and grey. Brass Sputnik-style lights and exposed beams elevate this kitchen to create an airy & dynamic space.

Modern elements like waterfall countertops are also common design features of a mid-century kitchen. One of the benefits of a waterfall countertop is it creates an opportunity to include a causal seating area. This space also includes classic globe pendant lights and authentic wood cabinetry to finish off the design.

This mid-century inspired kitchen captures the essence of the movement, with a modern twist. Although the cabinetry is dark, the clean hardware and close proximity to both stained wooden supports and a custom glass & brass shelf leave no doubt of the design roots of this space.

This mid-century kitchen features several of the design elements we've discussed - warm wood, waterfall countertops and simple cabinetry. It also uses one of the signatures of this style of design - brass accents. The bar stools and pendants are paired with brass faucets and hardware to create bold statement.
