This deck is doing everything right. Using beautiful wooden slats to create a privacy wall is an inspired idea - especially since they are spaced far enough apart to allow both light and greenery to peek through the background. Using a string of outdoor lights also makes this area look cozy and inviting - not to mention letting these homeowners enjoy more time outside well into the evening.

While this outdoor living room has something that most backyard don't - a permanently covered seating area - there are definitely take-aways from this stunning space. Using gorgeous hanging plants and floor plants makes this space feel vibrant and alive, while the gorgeous floor (it's actually painted!) creates a defined area which enhances the feeling of this truly being an outdoor 'room', instead of just a deck or patio.

This is the definition of an outdoor living room. A permanent roof, gorgeous lighting and a beautiful full length fireplace make this room a dream come true. When you have the ability to have permanent features like this room does, using other indoor items such as textiles and decor items becomes a much more viable option. We love the neutral colours used here to make this area feel calm and pulled-together.

This deck is an excellent example of how to create privacy without sacrificing the view. Using curtains outside is an excellent way to have the flexibility of privacy when you want it, without the commitment of a permanent privacy fixture. Add in a retractable awning, neutral furniture and fun accessories like outdoor poufs, and you can transform any patio area into your own paradise.

This circular patio takes full advantage of the built-in fire pit. Hanging lights from rods lets you have as much or as little lighting as you'd like. It looks like everything in this area can be moved around, added to or taken away as needed - a factor well worth considering in our climate. Having 4 distinct seasons can take a toll on outdoor features like pergolas and awnings, so for some homeowners being able to put away outdoor furniture and features is a big plus.

We hope we gave you some inspiration and tips for your outdoor space this year!
