Kitchen Design: Eat-in Kitchen Nook

The eat-in kitchen is a huge home requirement for most modern families. While many of us still have formal dining rooms, we tend to spend the most time in our kitchens. As a result, most kitchens have an eating area which gets used much more than our dining rooms. Today we're taking a peek at a few kitchens which take 'eat-in' to the next level - with beautiful built-in seating areas.

The owners of this beautiful home are lucky (or planned it perfectly!) enough to have this perfect dining nook surrounded by windows. We love the traditional molding and simple carpentry that make this nook feel timeless.

One of the reasons we love a kitchen dining built-in is the opportunity it gives to incorporate textiles and pattern into the kitchen! In this crisp space they have use a graphic blue and white fabric as the cushion covers. Blue and white always looks classic and fresh, while the fun pattern makes this space feel approachable. The cushioned banquette seating also means this space will be comfortable - perfect for either dining or marathon sessions of card or board games.

This classic white kitchen has a large built in seating area with a pedestal table. Using a pedestal table for this type of seating is definitely worth considering - there will be tons of feet and legs under that table, and having a solid base helps keep it from moving around or tripping guests as they stand up.

The best thing about built-in seating is you can make it completely your own. This kitchen didn't have a dedicated area for built-in seating, so these homeowners created their own! Putting a banquette on the back side of a kitchen peninsula lets the cook participate with whomever is sitting at the table. It also makes it easy to pass dishes right to the table!
