Design Trend: Cement Tile

Today we're sharing a few gorgeous inspiration photos which all feature a particular trend which we're loving lately: Cement tiles. It is easy to love cement tile; they add instant 'wow' to any design, have tons of personality and become more beautiful as they wear & age. Cement tiles do need to be sealed every few years, but other than that they are low maintenance and a great option for a high-traffic floor area.

This kitchen features many vintage inspired elements. The refrigerator, backsplash tile, shaker cabinets and mullioned windows all speak to a bygone era, which is why the cement tile they chose looks perfectly at home in this space. Cement tile comes in nearly infinite patterns, but this black and white Spanish-inspired pattern pairs excellently here.

This kitchen combines dreamy grey-blue cabinets, warm gold hardware and light counters with a stunning cement tile floor. The graphic blue and white design keeps this kitchen feeling fun and cheerful, perfect for a young family!

If a cement floor is not your vibe, we also love cement tile backsplash. Especially used as it is in this gorgeous kitchen as a feature wall, cement tile adds a certain timelessness which we love. The scale of the tile used in backsplash is important to consider. When picking your backsplash tile, consider the location of your tiles- will it be a full wall of tile, as above? Do you have upper cabinets instead? The scale of the tile may change depending on it's location.

A full floor or backsplash full of cement tile is certainly a commitment to pattern, which is why we also love this cheeky installation of cement tile as a back on this kitchen island. It adds interest and colour to this neutral kitchen, while being discrete enough that it isn't the focus of the entire space.

Lastly, if you prefer a much more pared-back design sensibility, we also think cement tile looks perfectly at home in small doses. This fireplace hearth in a black and white pattern is the perfect combination of minimal and interesting.

We certainly admire the brave and bold spaces where cement tile looks perfectly at home, and we hope you do too!
